BEDC Corner – Kyle James

Welcome to the BEDC corner; here, you will get a chance to meet the dedicated members of our team and Board. We will share our thoughts on entrepreneurship and what it means to provide support and help you build your dreams.

This month we feature Kyle James.

  • What excites you about entrepreneurship?

I love the idea of understanding a need and using one’s own personal experience and creativity to create a solution to that need or problem. The idea of entrepreneurship also takes us away from how most of us were programmed to got to university, obtain and degree and work. It allows us to step outside the box and truly allow who we are to flow.

  • What advice would you give to someone who is trying to become an entrepreneur?

To let them know not to get too caught up in trying to arrive at the destination, but to enjoy the journey. There is so much to learn about yourself throughout an entrepreneurial experience which is much more valuable than any monetary success.

  • What is your role at BEDC?

I have been a board member for 6 years.

  • What is the best part about being a member of the BEDC team?

The best part of being a part of the team is getting to engage with so many entrepreneurs who are at various levels and watching them grow. I also enjoy analyzing and identifying how the organization can supports entrepreneurs to better help them reach their goals.

  • What role does entrepreneurship play in the future of Bermuda?

Entrepreneurship will be pivotal in the future success of Bermuda. As the world continues to grow smaller through technology, it will be the new ideas that take Bermuda to the next level. Gone are the days where we can rely on tourism or financial services. Stepping outside of what we know and innovating will be the only solution to sustained success.

  • What trends have you noticed emerging within Bermuda’s Entrepreneurial Landscape?

I believe the pandemic has been a reminder to so many how precious life is and how important it is not to wait to reach for our dreams. As a result of such a world disturbance, the idea of entrepreneurship has resonated with greater amounts of people encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone and pursue their dormant dreams. I believe there is so much to come in the years to come from Bermudians.
